What's your current AI project related to searching and indexing Office Hours content?
ASKED BY · Unknown · 19 SEP 2026 · ▶ 00:26:32
Guy is staging a searchable index of Office Hours using Philmont, which ingested petabyte of YouTube data; it enables full-text search of 35 million words across 6 years with automatic subtitle matching, though data refreshes only every 6 months.

26:32year or so asking, where's this episode? Where's that episode? So I said, go to Philmont, which is website here, which basically they took about a petabyte of information from YouTube and they housed it and it's very expensive to do. So this website, if you go to it and you put in office hours and Paul's question about underwater, if you type in underwater and you go to automatic
26:56subtitles, it generates this, which is really cool. So that was about nine clips that it came up with from what they call the auto, see how it says automatic subtitles? And then there's also manual subtitles. So this is a great service, but unfortunately they only run their run about every six months. So it's not fresh, it's old, like it's stale data. And so what I asked the community to
27:22do to see if this would work, so this kind of started as a, let me just see if it'll work, and it kind of exploded off. So I'm staging this right now. If the board approves this part of the website, then it'll be in there. But an example is we had Opus, who's a sponsor for our shorts. And they're like, well, how many times
27:43did you actually say our name on your show? I could just go in here and type in Opus. And I'm like, hey, 40 times. And here's the exact time that we talked about it. So are they getting value? Absolutely. So there's reasons to have things like this. And so I'm trying to solve a problem. And I know some people are like, what privacy concerns?
28:01And I'm like, it's all on Philmont. It's all over there already. So I don't know if I'm going to ditch this project or what, but I'm trying to do this in service of the community. It's nothing. I don't gain nothing for doing this. This is just trying to take six years of information, 35 million words, throw it up there so that people can search and find stuff.
28:18I know Zach in Spokane has reached out to me a couple of times like, hey, where's that srt episode can you help me find it and i'm like go to film on he's like no it was a few weeks ago and i was like no good luck then you're gonna have to go through all the episodes by hand he's like i gotta show my boss that part that what's important we're on a gig and it's like well sorry
28:38so this should help speed things up so that's been the one that i've been working on whether whether it'll see the light of day we'll we'll see right i well i think that's super cool i mean the ability to i've wanted that for years because there have been a few times where i thought i'm like, I remember so-and-so, like I could have sworn they said that one thing
28:57or they recommended that one thing, but it's years ago and you can't remember and nothing's indexed. So I think that's pretty cool. Looking forward to seeing how that turns out. All right, just a reminder, if you want to ask this show, you can also go to askofficehours.global. That's another way, it's another portal into our community that doesn't require a login. It's very fast.
29:19You can do that right now by going to askofficehours.global, and it looks like we've got a QR code right there. Boop! If you just scan that, that will also take you to the right place, and you can ask questions to these fine panelists. We've got a great team of people here today to be here and answer those technical production questions, anything related to audio and video and streaming
29:42and all that sort of stuff. All right, Courtney, what do we got next? Another one from Paul Valhus in Austin, Texas. He says, how much does a talker's distance to the wall behind them matter compared to the wall behind the mic? Which side would you treat first? Go ahead, Courtney. Well, it depends on whether you're at the bottom of the pool or in a room. So if you're in a room, sound travels much
