Cookie policy

Last updated 26 September 20267 sections~2 min read

We keep cookies to a minimum: a few that the site needs to work, and Google Analytics only if you say yes. This page lists every cookie we set, what it does and how long it lasts — and how to change your mind.

AT A GLANCE

Essentials only by default

Until you choose, we only set the cookies the site needs to work.

Analytics only with a yes

Google Analytics cookies are set only after you accept them.

Change your mind anytime

Open "Cookie settings" in the footer to update your choice.

Strictly necessary cookies

In shortAlways on — without these, signing in and remembering your choice wouldn't work.

These cookies are needed for the site to work, so they don't need your consent. You can block them in your browser, but signing in and remembering your cookie choice will stop working.

On secure (HTTPS) pages the sign-in cookie's name starts with __Secure-.

  • better-auth.session_token⏱ 7 daysOffice Hours Global

Keeps you signed in after you log in with Google. Removed when you sign out.

  • oh_consent⏱ 12 monthsOffice Hours Global

Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies, so we don't ask on every page.

  • oh_gate⏱ 30 daysOffice Hours Global

While the site is in preview, remembers that you passed the "are you human" check.

Analytics cookies

In shortOptional. Set only after you accept analytics.

We use Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, which pages and episodes people use, so we can make the site better. It stores a random ID in a cookie so it can tell visits apart — not your name or email.

Until you accept analytics, Google Analytics sets no cookies. Google's advertising features and ad personalisation are switched off, and analytics data is deleted after 14 months. Read more in our privacy policy.

  • _ga⏱ 2 yearsGoogle

Google Analytics. Stores a random ID to tell visitors apart.

  • _ga_<ID>⏱ 2 yearsGoogle

Google Analytics. Keeps track of your current visit (session).

Embedded content

In shortYouTube videos and the donation form bring their own cookies.

Some pages include content from other services. Those services may set their own cookies, under their own privacy policies:

If you'd rather avoid these, watch episodes on YouTube directly or email us about other ways to donate.

  • YSC⏱ SessionYouTube (Google)

YouTube. Counts views of embedded videos.

  • VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE⏱ 6 monthsYouTube (Google)

YouTube. Remembers player settings and estimates your connection speed.

  • Givebutter cookies⏱ VariesGivebutter

Run the donation form on /donate securely and help prevent fraud.

Local storage

In shortSmall preferences that never leave your device.

Some screens remember small preferences — like a collapsed menu in the admin area — in your browser's local storage. This works like a cookie but is never sent to our servers, and you can clear it at any time in your browser settings.

Your choices

In shortAccept, decline, or change your mind — it's up to you.

  • On this site — the first time you visit, we ask whether you accept analytics cookies. To change your answer later, open Cookie settings in the footer. Declining doesn't limit anything on the site.
  • In your browser — every browser lets you view, block and delete cookies. Blocking all cookies will stop sign-in from working.
  • Google Analytics everywhere — Google offers an opt-out browser add-on that blocks Google Analytics on every website.

Changes to this policy

In shortNew cookie? It goes on this list first.

When we add or remove a cookie, we update this list and the date at the top. We won't use a cookie for a new purpose without asking for your consent again where the law requires it.
