QUESTION · EXTRA HOURS

Is there a good way to control a web presenter with OSC or other protocol?

THE PANEL'S ANSWER
Carl

The WebPresenter manual includes detailed protocol documentation in the back; you can feed the PDF to AI tools like Grok or Claude to generate control applications over local or public internet.

Blackmagic publishes an API for the WebPresenter that can be used with AI coding tools to develop custom software supporting OSC or other protocols over ethernet or USB.

Guy CochranPANELIST

Use Companion software, which already has WebPresenter integration; you can control it with Stream Deck or software emulators without needing custom development.

34:23Chlalik wants to know, is there a good way to control a web presenter with OSC or other protocol? call. I guess he's talking about the Blackmagic Web Presenter or Web Presenter 4, kid. Yeah, I think so. Courtney, go ahead. Well, I don't know if it supports OSC directly, but there is an API published by Blackmagic, which these days, in the days of vibe coding,

34:47you could download that API. It's available with all the controls that can be talked to over the the Ethernet connection to the web presenter, or the, I think, also over the USB connection. And you could just develop your own software to support the OSC protocol or to control it from whatever other software or program you want to control. I'm sure that'd be, if you feed it that API,

35:15I'm sure vibe coding could probably come up with something pretty quickly to interface it to whatever system you need to interface it to. Makes sense. Carl? Yeah, as Courtney said, so it's actually in the instruction manual. So the back third of the instruction manual is, well, the back third of the English part, so different languages, of course, but the back third of the English part of the instruction manual

35:35is all the different protocols that you can use to control it and how. So the beautiful thing is you can take that PDF of just the English version of the manual. You can put it into Grokbot, Claude, whatever you want, and tell it, hey, learn this and learn how I can talk to it. And then you can actually start giving it commands

35:51or give it agents to start giving you commands on how can you develop a web app that will allow me to control this over local ethernet can you control me a web app that will allow me to control this via vpn you know and so forth and over public internet and it will create your little web apps that will allow you to control that device um over different um connections essentially as i said like

36:10local or public internet would be the two common ones um and it will do it will vibe code it so as corny said it will vibe code it you just need to feed it that pdf you want to feed it the whole pdf So the human readable stuff, which is the first two thirds of course, all the settings, and then the last third of the manual, which is the actual, uh, the protocol and the syntax

36:28for all the different protocols, um, and what you can do. So it's pretty cool for that because we publish it all. Of course, there's also a rest API, which I'm guessing guy is going to go for guy. Um, I would just use companion. It's already, it's already there. It's already done. And, uh, there's some lovely buttons over there. So depending on what you want to do, you could just launch companion.

36:51And even if you don't have a stream deck, you could just use an emulator and have your pretty buttons and make them as big as, or as small as you want. And there's even that other, I don't use it myself, but there's that onscreen one that makes it so you could float it and put it wherever you want. Yeah. Now companion is generally the first place I look for.

37:09Can I do X? Can I control X with Y? And my first stop is always companion. Next question. Next one comes in from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. Alexander Knight wants to know, do we have an ATEM Extreme ISO G2 test yet? It's been on the market for a while, but it still feels like tumbleweeds with no firsthand reports or in-depth reviews.
